How to Use Online Help
(To read all of this screen, scroll down.) A
You can use the online Help from the Help menu or via hot keys.
Wherever you are in the program,
F1
you can press F1 to see a Help
screen about the menu command
or dialog-box item that's
currently active.
This context-sensitive Help comes up in a Help window:
In many cases the help text doesn't
Arrow
fit in the Help window. You can use
the arrow keys to scroll through the
text.
Most Help screens have some highlighted
items ("Help keywords") on them that lead
to another Help screen.
You can use Tab to select the next

Help keywords, then press Enter.
(Shift-Tab jumps backwards.)
If you're using a mouse, just

Menu commands
The top-down menus are located on the top of the screen. You can activate them by pressing F10 or clicking one of them. %

File (Alt+F)
The File menu offers choices for opening textfiles, printing textfiles, changing directories, shelling to DOS and exiting the program. 7

Open Textfile...
The Open Textfile command displays the Open
File dialog box. In this dialog box you select the textfile you want to open in a View
window.

Print
The Print command sends the textfile or report in the active View window to the printer.

Change Dir...
The Change Dir command brings up the Change
Directory dialog box, in which you can change the current directory.

DOS Shell
With the DOS Shell command, you can leave the program temporarily to perform a DOS command or run another program. 9
To return to this program, type EXIT at the DOS prompt.

Exit (Alt+X)
The Exit command terminates this program.
Graph (Alt+G)
The Graph menu offers choices for creating new graphs, opening graphs from file, saving graphs to file, viewing and editing graph, creating a report from analysis results and showing results graphically. ^

The New command creates a new, empty graph. W
If the previous graph is unsaved, a dialog box appears asking if you want to save it. '

Edit to edit the new graph.

Open... (F3)
The Open command displays the Open
File dialog box. In this dialog box you select the graph file you want to open. W
If the previous graph is unsaved, a dialog box appears asking if you want to save it.

Save (F2)
The Save command saves the current graph in a file.
If the graph is 'untitled', the Save
As dialog box appears so you can give a name to the file and save it under that name.

The Save As command opens the Save
As dialog box, where you can save the current graph under a different name, in a different directory, or on a different drive. ]
You can enter the new file name, including the drive and directory, and click or choose OK.

View (F7)
The View command shows the current graph on the graphics screen. When finished, press any key to exit the Graph Viewer.

Edit (F4)
The Edit command starts the Graph
Editor, where you can edit the current graph. When finished with the editing, press Esc to exit the Graph Editor.

Report... (F9)
The Report command opens the Report dialog box, where you can choose what aspects of the current graph are to be analysed.
After you have pressed the Ok button, the computer analyse, what you have chosen, creates a report, and opens a View
window where you can see the results.

Show... (F8)
The Show command opens the Show dialog box, where you can choose what aspects of the current graph to show.
After you have pressed the Ok button, the computer analyse, what you have chosen, and shows the results on the graphic screen. When finished, press any key to exit the Graph Viewer.
Options (Alt+O)
The Options menu contains commands that let you change various default settings.
The available commands are:

The Mouse command brings up the Mouse
Options dialog box, where you can set various options that control how your mouse works, including: R
how fast a double-click is
which mouse button (right or left) is

The Colors item brings up the Colors
dialog box, where you can customize the colors of the display.
Window (Alt+W)
The Window menu contains commands for manipulating windows. {
Most of the windows in this program have all the standard window elements, like scroll bars, a close box, and zoom icons. O

Size/Move (Ctrl+F5)
Choose this command to change the size or position of the active window.

If you press Shift while you use the arrow keys, you can change the size of the active window. When it's at the size you want, press Enter. Q
If a window has a Resize corner, you can drag that corner to resize the window.
Move
When you choose Window
Size/Move, the active window moves in response to the arrow keys. Once you've moved the window to where you want it, press Enter. F
You can also move a window by dragging its title bar with the mouse.

Zoom (F5)
Choose Zoom to resize the active window to the maximum size. b
If the window is already zoomed, you can choose this command to restore it to its previous size.
You can also double-click anywhere on the window's title bar (except where an icon appears), or on the Zoom box in the window's upper right corner, to zoom or unzoom the window.

Next (F6)
Choose Next to make the next window active, which makes it the topmost open window.

Previous (Shift+F6)
Choose Previous to make the most-recently active window be active again.

Close (Alt+F3)
Choose Close to close the active window. N
You can also click the Close box in the upper left corner to close a window. (
Choose Close All to close all windows.
Help (Alt+H)
The Help menu provides access to on-line Help, which comes up in a special Help window. The text in the Help window is a help screen.
(Also, don't forget that one-line menu and dialog-box hints appear on the status line whenever you select a menu command or dialog box item.) /

When you choose the About command from the Help menu, a dialog box appears, showing copyright and version information. G
To close the box, press Esc, Space, or Enter, or click the OK button.

The Open a File dialog box contains an input box, a file list, a file information panel, the standard Cancel button, one other action button (Open). p
Name
The Name input box is where you enter the name of the file to load, or the file-name mask to use as a filter for the Files list box (for example, *.*). 3
This input box has a history
list attached to it.

The Change Directory dialog box consists of an input box, a list box, the standard OK and Help buttons, and two other buttons (Chdir and Revert). |
Directory Name
The Directory Name input box is where you type in the path of the new directory. 3
This input box has a history
list attached to it.

The Directory Tree list box is where you point to (or move the cursor to) a directory name and choose the directory you want.
If you're using the keyboard, press Enter to make the selected directory be the current directory, then choose OK or press Esc to exit the dialog box. k
As soon as you change directories, the new current directory tree appears in the Directory Tree list box. T
The Directory Tree list box is where you select the directory you want to move to. +
[Chdir ]
The Chdir button changes the current directory once you've selected or typed in a directory name. +
[Revert]
The Revert button goes back to the previous directory, as long as you haven't yet exited the dialog box.
Help on the Report dialog box
In this dialog box you can choose what to include in the report about the current graph. You can also choose the language of the report (English and Hungarian are the available languages.)
Help on the Show dialog box
In this dialog box you can choose some analysis results to show on the graph graphically.
Help on the Mouse Options dialog box
This dialog box consists of one check box, one slider bar, and the standard buttons OK and Cancel.

The Mouse Double Click slider bar adjusts the double-click speed of your mouse. ^
[X] Reverse Mouse Buttons
Reverse Mouse Buttons makes the right mouse button take on the normal functions of the left--and vice versa.
Help on the Colors dialog box
The Colors dialog box consists of two list boxes, a text display area, the standard OK, Cancel, and Help buttons, and one of the following:
On color and black-and-white systems, it
also contains two color palettes.
On monochrome systems, it contains a set
of radio buttons instead of the palettes.
This dialog box is where you can change the colors of different parts of this program.

The Group list box contains the names of the different regions of the program that you can customize. L

If you choose this button, the settings you've made in the dialog box are recorded. K
If this is the default button, you only need to press Enter to choose it.
[ Cancel ]
If you choose Cancel, nothing changes and no action occurs, and the dialog box is put away. K
Esc always cancels a dialog box, even if a Cancel button does not appear.
history list
The history list attached to an input box lists whatever text you typed the last few times you used the dialog box. b
You can get to the history list whenever you see a down-arrow icon to the right of an input box.
You can use the history list to re-enter text that you've already entered. You can also edit an entry in the history list directly. E
Press Esc to exit from the history list without making a selection.

A window is a bordered screen area that you can move, resize, zoom, rearrange, close, and open. u
It easy to spot the active window; it always has a double-lined border around it, and it always has these elements: y

Scroll
You can have any number of windows open (memory allowing), but only one window can be active at any time. The active window is the one that you're currently working in. F
Generally, any command you choose applies only to the active window. j
If your windows overlap, the active window is always the topmost one (the one on top of all the others).
Close box
You can click the Close box to quickly close the window. (You can also choose Window
Close or press Alt+F3.)
Zoom box
The Zoom box appears in the window's upper right corner. y
If the icon in the Zoom box is an up arrow, you can click the arrow to enlarge the window to the largest size possible.
If the icon is a double-headed arrow, the window is already at its maximum size; click the arrow to return the window to its previous size. 0
(You can also choose Window
Zoom or press F5.)
title bar
You can double-click the title bar to zoom the window. You can also drag the title bar to move the window around.
scroll bars
Scroll bars are horizontal or vertical bars that show both mouse and keyboard users how far into the file they've gone. You use these bars with a mouse to scroll the contents of the window.
- Click the arrow at either end to scroll
one line at a time. (Keep the mouse button
pressed to scroll continuously.)
- You can click the shaded area at either
end of the scroll box to scroll the window
one page (windowful) at a time.
- You can drag the scroll box to any spot
on the scroll bar to quickly move to a
spot in the window relative to the
position of the scroll box.
The Built-in Text Viewer
There are many ways to get into an open View window (make it active): T
1) Click it.
3) Press F6 (or Shift F6) to cycle through the
open windows.
To close the active View window, choose Window

If it doesn't help, exit STEFI, uninstall some TSR (terminate-and-stay resident) programs to increase the amount of free memory and try again.

Possible causes:
There isn't any file under the given path
and filename.
There are problems with the disk.
If opening graf, the given filename is not
a valid GRF file.
Check the spelling of the filename to read.
Error writing file.
Possible causes:
The given name is not a valid DOS filename.
The given path doesn't exist.
Disk is full.
There are problems with the disk.
Error during printing.
Possible causes:
No printer connected.
Paper is out in the printer.
Could not open help file.
The help file (STEFI.TVH) must be in the same directory as STEFI.EXE.
Could not init VGA graphics.
To view or edit a graph, a VGA graphic card and monitor is needed.
Cannot show requested info.
The requested info doesn't exist or makes no sense in the current graph.
The View Window
View windows are where you can read textfiles or reports about graph analysis results. 0
You can open as many View windows as you want. l

The Graph Editor
You can create and edit graphs in the Graph Editor. The editor works in graphical mode, so when you select Graph
Edit, the windows, the menubar and the statusline disappears,
On the left side of the screen you get a brief description about the keyboard actions. On the right you can view and edit the graph. #
Use the arrow keys to move the cross-shaped cursor. Add nodes with Ins or delete them with Del. Almost all of the operations affect the selected node or line. This one is highlighted (displayed in another color). You can also add weight to the nodes and the lines or create directed graph. <
When finished editing, press Esc to exit the Graph Editor.
